How Ready Are Students For Live Learning Online?

Over the last few years, education has changed a lot. Online learning methods have replaced traditional classes in the classroom. They blend the flexibility of prerecorded lessons with class meetings that are held using real-time software. However, even these online learning methods may not be enough for students who prefer the live interaction of a face-to-face classroom.

Live learning online is a viable alternative to these other online learning strategies that allows students and instructors to talk in real time through videoconferencing programs like Zoom. These classes give students the chance to ask questions, dispel confusion, and gain a more understanding of the directory material being taught.

While there are numerous benefits of live learning but it can be a challenge for some students to adapt to this kind of online learning. This study explores student readiness for live learning and identifies the primary factors that determine it. The results reveal that most influential variables are motivation for learning and online communication, as well as self-directed learning ability. The researchers also conducted a multi-group study and post hoc test to evaluate the gender differences in undergraduate and graduate students as well as sub-degree students. It was discovered that postgraduate students have greater level of readiness in many aspects of live-learning compared to undergraduate and sub-degree students.

It is recommended that instructors set clear expectations for what students are expected to be aware of and learn prior to, during, and after an Live Session. It is important to provide additional materials like summaries and gist quizzes. Also outline, concept maps and study guides are useful. Instructors should also create activities that will reinforce what the students have learned on their own, for instance, reviewing, practicing, debating and reviewing.
